At the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), we are dedicated to empowering India’s youth through comprehensive skill development. The organization was founded on July 31, 2008 as a not-for-profit public limited company under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 (now corresponding to section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013). The organization is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). Because our collaborative structure has 49 percent of its shares held by the government and 51 percent by private sector players, we are the principal architects of India’s skill ecosystem.

We offer funding support for enterprises, start-ups and other organizations in addition to concessional loans or any other innovative financial products. Our mission is to enhance and coordinate private sector programs regarding vocational training so that no financial barrier hinders skill development within them.

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is the principal architect of the skill ecosystem in the country. In a country where people hardly get quality education or employment opportunities, it is indeed an unprecedented step to make such an institution. NSDC has been set up as a public-private partnership (PPP) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India. The main goal of starting NSDC was to accelerate the process of more private sector involvement by developing an enabling environment for vocational training initiatives to enhance employability for youths and women. These model schemes encourage and promote private participation in skilling through provision of grants-in-aid or loans to deserving candidates through various other schemes like innovative financing products with strategic partnerships etc. In this way, NSDC is acting like a facilitator for providing funding assistance to eligible entities for introducing supportive mechanisms for various skill development projects.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors of NSDC comprises three to fifteen members who are dynamic and experienced, thereby driving positive change in the skill ecosystem. The Central Government appoints up to six Directors including the Chairman while the private sector shareholders appoint nine Directors at maximum. This diverse Board has a lot of experience, expertise and insights from various industries for NSDC to remain on top of skill development efforts in India. Their common vision and leadership help us accomplish our mission of empowering young people across the nation through building a strong framework for skills training.

Schemes 

Information regarding PMKVY

The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship programme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The initiative was put in place by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under which a scheme called Skill Certification is aimed at enabling Indian youth to acquire industry pertinent skill training that will assist them in obtaining better means of livelihood.

Short Term Training

Short Term Training (STT) at PMKVY Training Centres (TC) is meant for mainly Indian citizens who are either school/college dropouts or unemployed persons. In addition to offering training based on National Skills Qualification Framework nationally, TCs also conduct soft skills, entrepreneurship, financial and digital literacy training. This means after assessment candidates can expect placement assistance from Training Providers.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Under RPL component individuals with prior learning experience or skills are evaluated and issued a certificate. Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) such as Sector Skill Councils (SSCs) or any other organizations identified by MSDE/NSDC are incentivized to undertake RPL projects in any of the three models in RPL camps, RPL at employer’s premise and RPL centers so as to fill knowledge gaps.

The Plan For Special Project

The desirable inclusive component of PMKVY in regard to special projects is aimed at developing a platform through which training can be conducted in special areas and/or on the premises of Government bodies or corporations or industries as well as for special job roles that are not defined under the existing Qualification Packs (QPs) or National Occupational Standards (NOS). A stakeholder proposing a Special Project may need to deviate from the short-term training guidelines of PMKVY. Institutions within the Central or State governments, autonomous bodies/statutory bodies, or others with similar status whose objective is to offer training to prospective candidates may be involved.

Regulatory Body-NCVET

The National Council of Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) is an all-rounded regulatory body with the primary goal of promoting quality in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.

This institution has taken over functions that were earlier held by National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) and former National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT).

NCVET seeks to create strong industry linkages while establishing effective regulation for the various players within the sector to better their performance. It also offers standards for Awarding Bodies and Assessment Agencies dealing with the problems resulting from multiple regulators leading to poor quality training as well as unsatisfactory outcomes.

NCVET aims at bridging together a dispersed regulatory framework thereby ensuring quality assurance along the whole journey of vocational skills development thus improving training results in general.

  1. Recognition and regulation of Awarding Bodies (ABs), Assessment Agencies (AAs) and Skill-related Information Providers.
  2. Approval of qualifications in line with NSQF (National Skills Qualification Framework).
  3. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Supervision of recognized entities.
  4. Facilitation of Grievance Redressal for the diverse stakeholders concerned.
